- Luscious Living Coral
Living Coral has officially been announced as Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2019. This fun and bright hue of gorgeous pinkish orange has been described by the Pantone folks as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens”. It’s a bold, punchy shade, but you can easily introduce small hints of it into your home through artwork or soft furnishings. With its joyful optimism and warmth, this happy and playful tone will make even devoted monochrome lovers smile.
- Golden highlights
Matte metallic finishes have been popular for a while, working their way heavily into tapware, handles and lighting in recent years. In 2019, however, gold finishes will be updated and given a sophisticated revamp – think accents in sleek, high-shine golds, black-golds and golds with natural patinas.
- All the curves in the right places
Organic shapes and curves will feature heavily, through furniture, homewares and also architecture. Think shapely sofas, irregular vases and rounded edges on walls, corners and cabinetry. With softer lines and fewer hard edges, this trend is warm and inviting and oozes style.
- Once you go matte black, you never go back
Matt black finishes are most definitely on the 2019 hotlist. Nothing beats the sophistication, drama and trendy style of matte black. You’ll be seeing it pop-up everywhere – in exteriors, tapware, flooring, wall tiles, homewares, ceilings, furniture, lighting, appliances, you name it! What’s not to love? It’s versatile, timeless, elegant and perfectly complements most shades and materials, including all neutrals and metals.
- Art Deco revival
While design and technology are constantly moving forward, it’s not without inspiration from the past. We are drawn to the beauty of design eras gone by, as seen by the retro influence of Mid-Century Modern in the homes of interiors lovers everywhere. Now Art Deco is making a comeback for 2019, along with the opulence, drama and exuberance that defines it. While traditional Art Deco may seem over-the-top and even gaudy to our modern eyes, the new look Art Deco will pop up in more subtle ways, such as through detailing on chairs and tables and through lighting. The contemporary reinvention of Art Deco will see a lot of bold colours and shiny metals, adding a touch of luxury and glam.
